  • Going around Robin Hood’s barn

    What a beautiful weekend. Saturday was very nice, but Sunday was spectacular. It went up to 58 degrees on my thermometer.
    Pat, Ann and I went to Louisville to another play. Somebody in the ticket office really messed up this year. We had no play in January, which was no real hardship, considering the weather. But we had two plays scheduled on consecutive Saturdays in February. It was a good drama and very well done, but I’m just about all cultured out at the moment.

  • Sisters always shared zest for living

    I finally got off the Branch last week. My van hadn’t left the garage since a week ago Thursday. Luckily, I had gone to the library Tuesday, the 18th, to stock up on books and gone to Walmart on Thursday to get dog food and milk. After that, the cold and snow moved in and I stayed in.

  • The social scene could be looking up

    It was -9 on my thermometer Saturday morning. I kid you not. I live in a valley and it’s always colder here than anyplace else.
    We called off church Saturday. Joel called to see if I wanted him to go to Monterey to clear the ice off the sidewalk of the church. I wouldn’t have wished my worse enemy out on Saturday morning.
    We talked a while and compared the sick and decided that it wouldn’t be worthwhile to heat the church for four or five people. I called around and got the news.

  • Horse in the road isn’t much of an obstacle

    I got out Jan. 10 and stocked up on dog food and supplies and was in the house till Friday. I was beginning to feel like a house plant. I finished my last book on Thursday, so I was desperate to get to the library. This week looks much better, but just in case, I stocked up on books.

    I spoke too soon — the paper had just come out last week when the morning news reported that an earthquake had rolled through Florence and was felt as far south at Grant County. I also forgot to mention forest fires and mud slides. Kentucky is known for its diversity in weather phenomenon, but I don’t remember it all coming in one year.

  • The social season comes to an end until spring

    This has been a busy week for me. I’m sure it has for most of my readers too, with Christmas just a week away.
     I got the last of the decorating done on Monday. Anything that is not covered with  red, green and gold by now will just have to wait till next year. Tuesday was banking day, a trip to the library and bridge. Mary Ann Cobb had it this time and it was our Christmas party.
    The sun was shining and we had a very nice afternoon, but this will be our last afternoon till March.
