  • Kay’s Branch News: Derby gets the blood pumping

    Derby weekend was a whopping success. Oh, it rained on Wednesday and the boat race had to be postponed; or was that Tuesday? It rains so much lately I loose track, but Friday was a beautiful day for the Oaks; and though it was cloudy and cool most of Saturday, the small amount of rain that fell at mid-afternoon didn’t hurt the track or the crowd’s enthusiasm.

  • Kay’s Branch News: Life continues along the Branch

    I thought the top of the news tonight would be “Everybody on the Branch got out their mowers and got their yards mowed.” I turned on the 11 o’clock news to see David Gregory announcing that Osama Bin Laden is dead.
    After all this time and all the changes in our lifestyle in the U.S. the past 10 years, all the death and destruction that has been caused in his name, what happens now? Will another bogeyman arise to take his place? Will we just turn to Libya’s Gadaffi to be the new bogeyman to take his place? Who knows.

    After a week of cold and clouds, the sun came out and we had a lovely day Saturday. Ann, Pat and I went to lunch at Panera Bread Cafe next door to the Longhorn. I hadn’t been there before, so it was nice to try something new. I liked it very much. We’re going to try it again sometime.

  • Kay's Branch News: Let’s dance

    We’re in the Big Dance! And I’ve made it through another weekend without having a heart attack. In case you haven’t heard, UK beat North Carolina Sunday evening. Just one more weekend to suffer through and I can concentrate on golf and yard mowing.
    It didn’t look much like yard-mowing weather Sunday morning — 32 degrees and a covering of snow on the porch and yard when I got up. Welcome to spring in Kentucky.

  • Family with Owen ties safe from crisis in Japan

    Well, I made it through another basketball-filled weekend. In case someone out there was in a cave someplace and hasn’t heard, the University of Kentucky beat West Virginia. So we march on to next weekend. This time we will face Ohio State. I am filling my head with mundane things so I won’t dwell on it.
    Gardening is something to think about. I have seen several plots that have been plowed.

  • Children are for the young

    It was a nice weekend. UK won, the rain stopped before the creek got too far out of its banks and into the church basement, and Rachel and Chris came down for supper Sunday evening and brought the great-grandchildren. They went home just before both Sandy and I had a nervous breakdown. They are beautiful, adorable and loud. They’re 2 and 4. What can one expect?
    Rachel is expecting her third at the end of this month. Small children and babies are definitely for the young.

  • Dog saves hunter the trouble

    I got my “project” started this week. I decided to build a narrow cabinet in the back hall to store dog food, soft drinks, assorted laundry and cleaning products and miscellaneous items and have a folding surface on top for clothes from the dryer.
