Kays Branch News

Good morning, though it’s wet and cloudy on the Branch this morning. I will be stuck at home. John brought the news on Friday that the road crew had moved its equipment in and would start paving our road Monday morning. The trucks have already gone up the road; though it’s hardly light out.
I had a great week last week, busy every day, so I can afford to stay home one day to have our road blacktopped.

It is now 32 degrees on my thermometer this morning. We had frost Sunday morning too. It looks like I can quit popping the allergy pills very soon. I did get the live plants into the garage Saturday evening. I’ve learned when they start predicting low temps for surrounding counties, it’s going to frost on the Branch. Our flowers are long gone before anybody else’s. That’s why I switched to artificial flowers to decorate for fall. They are bright and decorative long after the cold of November sets in.

We had bridge on Tuesday at the Smith House. I was the designated hostess this week. As I was going in with my very large beach bag of stuff for the bridge game, I saw Jackie Allnutt just in front of me. I hadn’t seen her since the Owenton High School reunion. We stood blocking the door and talked till she found her friends and went to sit down.

The weekend was great for outdoor sports, projects and just sitting and admiring it. The barn martins have flown. My two humming birds are still here, but evidently they didn’t reproduce because there has been no new birds at the feeder.
I saw a field of tobacco that had been cut as I was going to Owenton last week.
Fay brought me corn and tomatoes at midweek. I processed it and froze it for John’s birthday supper. When I was talking to her this morning she said all their corn was gone but she still had green beans and tomatoes.
