    It’s a lovely day to be alive. The sun is shining, the birds are singing - yes, the birds are beginning to come back. I saw a beautiful blue bird fly across my viewing area as I drove down the road this past week.
    Ann reports that the skunks are out too. The groundhog did not see his shadow, anywhere in the eastern part of the U.S. and Easter Sunday is early this year, so I am expecting an early spring this year. You heard it here first. Now watch it snow a blizzard on Easter Sunday.

  • Kay’s Branch News: A new ‘dog house’ opens on the Branch

    The Super Bowl has come and gone for another year. I am not a great fan of football so I opted for “Downton Abby,” but I did catch the tail end of it. I got all the gory details from Fay.
    She and Jennifer taped the commercials so as not to miss Adam’s Coors commercial, but unless it was scheduled during the black out, he didn’t make the cut. Maybe it was meant for just the west coast. I’ll have to get Wanda to call him and clarify.

  • Kay’s Branch News: It’s a good time to visit sunshine state

    I guess Fay and Bruce had already gone to the barn this morning when I called. It’s not a bad morning to be out. It’s a balmy 48 degrees this morning. This elevator weather has finally gotten me. I started sneezing Saturday and by the time I got home from church I sounded like I had gotten into the sneezing powder. By evening I had a full-blown cold. I have already cancelled dominos for this week. I don’t think I shall be ready for people in close contact by Wednesday.

  • Kay’s Branch News: Holidays bring lots of news

    Happy New Year!
    I guess that’s still appropriate. Things go so fast now I should be mentioning Ground Hog Day.
    I hope your Christmas was as good as mine. Everyone was healthy and got to my house on Christmas morning and everyone meaning all my children and their spouses, my granddaughters and their husbands and the four great-grandchildren.

  • Dealing with the business of death

    I’m getting a slow start this morning. The coffee hasn’t quite reached the brain yet. Last week was a very busy one for me. It seemed like I was at the computer or on the phone most of the week. People to notify, questions to answer for Pat or Rita and finding others who had moved and should be notified. If you have never had to cope with the “business of death,” it’s daunting the first time you have to do it.
    Things did fall into place and Johnny Bob’s memorial service was really nice.

  • Retirement means more time for fun

    I think the drought is broken. I think we must have had 3 inches of rain since it started raining last week. None of us know because we take our rain gauges in the first of December to keep them from freezing and cracking. Not the case this year. Its been near 60 on the Branch all week and is still about 50 this morning. The Branch has been running high since Friday. I talked to Fay this morning and she said they had been checking their gap every day to make sure it hadn’t washed out. Otherwise they have been keeping close to the house.

  • Kay’s Branch News: Time to welcome family and say goodbye to a friend

    Just a quick note to clear up some errors in last week’s column. I should reread it before I send it rather than reading it when the paper comes out. Gene Rose is Stony’s “cousin.”
    In the paper last week, that sentence bumped up against the line dividing the next item on the page and “cousin” got left out.
