Experienced players from the Owen County Judo Team competed Nov. 20 at the University of Tennessee.

From Owen County High School,  James Thompson’s performance was unsurpassed in the junior heavyweight division and the senior men’s novice 185 and under division.

At age 15, this was Thompson’s first time fighting in the senior men’s competition. However, with 10 years of experience on the mat and numerous national and international championships under his belt, Thompson immediately proved he was more than ready for the challenge and walked away with first place in both divisions.

John Thompson took third in the senior men’s 132 and under brown/black belt division.

Robert Beverly took second in the senior men’s 220 and under brown/black belt division.

Madison Lubbe took first in the girls’ 11/12-year-old division and Laura Lubbe placed first in the girls’ 6/7-year-old division.
