Junior named honorable mention to all-state squad

Owen County High School junior Sawyer Williams may be busy on the hardwood these days, but he was recently honored for his efforts last fall on the gridiron.
Williams was named as an honorable mention to the Kentucky All-State High School Football Team.
For the season, Williams led the Rebels in tackles with 62 and fumble recoveries with three.
Owen County High School Head Football Coach Adam Fowler said Sawyer is nearly unblockable on the defensive line when he gets after the quarterback.
Fowler said defense is not the only place where Sawyer shines and praised his football acumen.
“He has the best hands on the team and has a knack for getting open,” Fowler said.
As a result, Rebel quarterbacks often look in Williams’ direction.
“Our quarterbacks love throwing him the ball because they know they just have to get it close to him,” Fowler said.
On offense, the junior was the team’s leader in receptions with 37 and was second in receiving yards and touchdowns with 435 and four.
