Kentucky American Water crews are working to address the water service outages in Owen County due to a water main break complicated by the extreme cold.
According to a press release from Kentucky American Water, water tanks and lines are being refilled to restore service as quickly as possible, but the process could take several hours.
Customers may experience temporary restoration of water service as the service re-pressurizes and stabilizes. This condition may continue intermittently until water service is fully restored.
Once water service returns to your location, KAW asks that customers be advised of the precautionary boil water advisory that remains in place.
During a boil water advisory, it is recommended that customers boil for three minutes any tap water they intend to use for consumption, such as for drinking, cooking or making ice.
After boiling water, let it cool before consuming. According to KAW, customers should continue the practice for 24 hours from the time the boil water advisory is issued unless notified by KAW.
UPDATE: At approximatley 1:10 p.m. Wednesday Kentucky American Water confirmed two additional breaks have occured in their system, one near the Perry Street tank and another on Hwy. 127 South near the stockyards. According to KAW, additional crews are in the area to help fix these mains. The breaks will extend the time that it will take for water service to be restored throughout the area, at least into the evening hours Wednesday.
