Owen County High School is looking for a new leader.

During the Owen County Board of Education’s regular monthly meeting Monday, it was announced Owen County High School Principal Shannon Treece would be leaving her position with the district.

Treece is reportedly leaving her post for a position with the Ohio Valley Educational Cooperative.

Interim Owen County Superintendent Don Martin said the open position had been posted on the district’s web site and the OCHS site-based decision making council would ultimately make the decision on a new principal.

Martin said the SBDM will receive training before they begin the process of selecting a new principal.

Once trained, Martin said the SBDM would sit down and discuss what they would like to see in a new principal.

The position will be posted for 30 days, but an interim principal could be appointed by Martin if the SBDM needs more time to make a final decision.

The board also approved several items that will help prepare the school district for the upcoming year as students return to school in less than a month.

The board opened the meeting by appointing Martin as board secretary and amending the agenda to authorize Martin to advertise for furniture bids for the new middle school which is expected to be completed later this year.
