A routine traffic stop has led to the arrest of a local man on a warrant for possession of heroin.
According to Kentucky State Police Post 5 Spokesperson Brad Arterburn, Brian Smith, 27, of Greenup Road in Owen County, was arrested on U.S. 127 and Greenup Road just after 11 p.m. on Sept. 9.
KSP Trooper David Staubach pulled Smith over for not having an illuminated license plate, Arterburn said.
Smith was arrested for DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia and no illuminated license plate.
During the investigation, Staubach discovered Smith was wanted on two warrants from Boone County including possession of heroin and theft by unlawful taking.
Kentucky State Police Public Information Officer Brad Arterburn said two needles used for heroin injections were found during the arrest.
Smith was taken to the Carroll County Detention Center and later released.
