This coming Sept. 11 will mark a day of remembrance across the country.
But a special event in Owen County will mark and honor a treasured part of Owen County’s agricultural history.
A special tractor parade will wind its way across Owen County starting at 10 am. Sept. 11.
Johnny Stewart, who is organizing the parade, said he hosted a tractor show in May as a fund-raiser for Relay for Life and the success of that event sparked the idea for the parade.
“It was good to get a bunch of farmers together and share stories and such,” Stewart said. ‘We got to share some great stuff and it brought back a lot of memories.”
Although he has hosted several tractor shows, Stewart said this year’s tractor parade will be the first in Owen County.
“There have been others in some of the counties around here but this is the first,” Stewart said. “I think we will have a good turnout.”
Stewart hopes to have a good variety of tractors on display.
“A lot of these will likely be antiques,” Stewart said. “They have a history by themselves and how they helped make Owen County what it is. Farming is a big part of our history.”
The parade will begin at the Owen County community park and wind through most of Owen County.
“The route we will be going is about 26, 27 miles long and we’ll end up back where we started,” Stewart said. “It should be a lot of fun for everyone.”
So if you see a long line of tractors meandering through some of the rural highways that Saturday, rest assured it just part of Owen County’s history.
“We wanted to have a long route so everyone would get a chance to see,” Stewart said. “For some of the older people in the community, these tractors will bring back a lot of good memories.”
The event is open to everyone but all drivers must be at least 16 years old. In case of rain, the event will be cancelled.
