Three Rivers District Health Department/Owen County Health Center hosted the second in a series of four 5K fun run/walk events May 1 at the Owen County High School.
Thirty participants braved the strong rains and cool temperatures for the opportunity to run and walk. Everyone gathered at the winner’s circle where trophies were given to the first-, second-, and third-place racers and medals were presented to the top three males and females in seven different age groups.
The winning time went to Shannon Treece, 32, of Owenton, who crossed the finish line in 27 minutes, 36 seconds. The second-place runner to cross the finish line was Randy Towles, 48, of Owenton, who finished the race in 30 minutes and 59 seconds. The third-place runner to cross the finish line was Mackenzie Duncan, 10, of Owenton who finished the race in 32 minutes and 15 seconds.
The 5K fun run/walk events are presented by Three Rivers District Health Department to encourage increased physical activity among the citizens in the Carroll, Gallatin, Owen and Pendleton counties that Three Rivers serves. The races attract participants from throughout the tri-state and from as far away as Somerset and Dayton, Ohio. The organizers would like to thank all of the sponsors and city officials who helped to make theses races possible.
