Successful soccer seasons end

Two successful seasons came to an end last week. The Owen County High School boys and girls soccer team finished their seasons a week ago in the Eighth Region Tournament.
The Lady Rebels wrapped up their year by falling 7-0 to Spencer County Oct. 15 at Patterson Field. Owen County fell behind early in the game allowing three goals in a five-minute stretch to let the game slip away.
The Lady Rebels had a chance to get some momentum midway through the first half but were turned away when the Lady Bears’ goalie made a great save to keep Owen County off the scoreboard.
Despite the loss, Owen County finished the season with a 6-15 record. The six wins are the most since the Lady Rebels won eight games in 2001. The team also became the first girls soccer team to win a district tournament when they captured the 31st District championship.
For the season, senior Morgan Walker  led the team with 14 goals.
Ashley Byers led the team in assists with nine. The senior also scored 12 goals during the year. Sophomore Autumn Gover finished the year with two shutouts in goal.
The boys concluded their year last week also falling in the first round of the 8th Region Tournament. The Rebels traveled to Collins Oct. 15 where they fell to the Titans 4-0.
Owen County finished the season with a record of 13-11. The 13 wins were the most since the Rebels won 11 games in 2005.
Austin Collins finished the season as the leading goal scorer for the Rebels. The senior finished the season with 15 goals.
Senior James Marston ended the year with 11 goals and a team leading 30 assists.
Senior goalkeeper Ben Allen finished the season with seven shutouts.
