Sports briefly: Owen County High School golf teams

• The Owen County High School girls golf team was in action twice last week and won twice. The team took on Gallatin County High School at Sugar Bay on Wednesday. Kennedi Dermon led the way with a 42 while Shelby Power carded a 43. Debbie Farrar shot 47 and Lydia Merrifield shot 49. Morgan Woodyard played and posted a 56. On Thursday,  the team welcomed Ryle to Fairway Golf Course. Power shot a one-over par 36 on the front nine to for the low round of the day. Dermon shot a 37 while Aly Minch posted 42 and Lynsey Farrar, 43. Julie Spaulding shot a 49. At the Gene Hilen Tournament at Juniper Hills on Saturday, the team finished fourth overall just two strokes behind third-place Henry Clay High School. Seventeen teams participated. Dermon shot 81; Power, 82; Minch, 85; Lynsey Farrar, 86; and Spaulding, 89. The team will be heading to the All ‘A’ State Tournament at Lincoln Homestead on Saturday. The Lady Rebels will be looking to improve upon a sixth-place finish a season ago. It will be the team’s fourth-straight trip to the tournament.
• The Owen County High School boys golf team improved its overall record to 7-1 this season with a pair of wins last week. The Rebels took care of Frankfort on Aug. 27 at Juniper Hills. Zach Ripy fired a 38 to take home medalist honors. On Aug. 28, the team hosted Carroll County High School at Fairway Golf Course. Justin Trusty had the low round of the day with a 38 to claim medalist honors. The team will be in action Wedensday at Fairway Golf Course once again against Frankfort. It will be the Rebels final tuneup before heading to Somerset to play in the State All ‘A’ Classic on Saturday.
