If the weather would have cooperated, the Lady Rebels would have begun their season Monday at Western Hills but rain forced the cancelation of the season opener.

Owen County finished the 2009 season with a 12-14 overall record. The team played in the 31st district championship game where they fell to Henry County. They then advanced to the 8th region tournament where they dropped their opener to Oldham County.

The Lady Rebels return their four leading hitters from last season as well as their top pitcher.

Courtney Waldrop and Jensen Wainscott led the team with .338 batting averages.

Waldrop led the team with a pair of homeruns while driving in 18 runs. Wainscott was second on the team with 12 RBI and led the team with 22 stolen bases on 24 attempts.

Kenzie Criswell hit .275 last season while Megan Harris batted .250.

Katelyn Sutherland heads into the 2010 season as the team’s top returning hurler.

Sutherland won nine games last season while posting a 2.02 earned run average.

Lefty Miranda Owens also pitched 10 games last year for Owen County Head Softball Coach David Wainscott. Owens had two wins to go along with a 2.22 ERA.

The Lady Rebels will once again have to contend with Henry County in the 31st district.

The Lady Wildcats won the district last season while finishing the season with a 24-12 record.

Carroll County finished 2009 with a record of 11-11 while Gallatin County finished 4-12.

Owen County would have jumped into district play Monday in Warsaw against Gallatin County but rain forced the cancelation of the game.

The team will head to Carrollton Thursday night to take on the Lady Panthers.

The Lady Rebels will play their first home game of the season this upcoming Monday night as they host Simon Kenton. They will take on Henry County Tuesday night. Both games are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
