It was recognition and even a few tears. The Owen County Lady Rebels’ soccer team said “so long” to eight seniors last Monday night at Patterson Field.
For eight seniors it was their last chance to play on their home field and be recognized by the fans. Before the game, each girl was presented with a gift from Coach Haines and was honored by those in attendance. Following the festivities, Owen County took on Henry County.
While goalie Samantha Toole and the Lady Rebels’ defense did its part in not allowing Henry County to score, Owen County was unable to take advantage of several scoring chances. The end result was the game ending in a 0-0 tie.
Two of the chances came late in the game when both Devin Jouett and Katie Haines had penalty kicks. The girls, however, were not able to convert.
The eight Lady Rebels seniors included Jerusha Toole, Serai Aguazul, Ciara McDaniel, Danielle Watson, Emily Snell, Brittany McDonald, Evyn White and Melina Bress.
Coach Haines said of his seniors, “They are a nice group of kids and they will be greatly missed.”
