Three OCHS students presented speeches to the Owen County Rotary Club March 20 at its weekly meeting at the Smith House Restaurant.
Danielle Hoop, Dakoda Trenary and Blake Chancery addressed the Rotary Club with speeches they wrote as part of the annual Rotary District 6710 Speech Contest.
This year’s theme was “Building Communities … Bridging Continents.” The contest was held at OCHS March 11.
Chancery won third place, a cash prize of $100. Trenary was rewarded with a check for $200 for her second-place finish and Hoop took first-place honors and a check for $300.
The cash prizes were provided by Owen County School District and the Owen County Rotary Club. Kathy Williams coordinated the contest at the high school.
Hoop will now move on to the sectional contest that will be held April 15 in Oldham County.
Owenton Rotary Club President Tom Olds, said, “We are very proud of these students who researched Rotary International and presented their speeches to us. Danielle will represent our club and Owen County well.”
