Community invites public to run for roses and bargains

Owen County Magistrate Teresa Davis hopes to show off the end of the county she’s proud to call home while bringing the community together with the second annual 227 Yard Sale this weekend.
The yard sale will once again be Kentucky Derby themed, but Davis said decorations won’t be mandatory.
“Everybody does the 127 yard sale,” Davis said. “But because (Hwy.) 227 is out this direction, it gets left out. I just wanted to do something that the whole community could be involved in.”
The yard sale will begin Friday, with the “starting gate” at 227 in front of the Owen County bus garage.
Davis said she currently has 15 vendors signed up, but expects 20-25 by Friday.
There will be a $5 entry fee and Davis said events like most decorative derby yard, most creative derby hat and total sales winner will be held.
“Even if they wake up Friday morning and decide they want to throw a yard sale together they can give me a call,” Davis said.
The youth at Hesler Assembly of God will also be selling refreshments.
Davis said “spotty rain” wouldn’t put a damper on the festivities, but a rain date has been set for May 10-11.
“It always rains on Derby weekend,” Davis said. “But we welcome everybody to come to the 227 Yard Sale and see our end of the county.”
