Rebels host cross-country meet

By Brian Blair

It is said there is no place like home.

For Danielle Hoop and the rest of the Lady Rebel Cross Country team, that old saying seems to be true.

The Lady Rebels ran in their only home race of the season Oct. 14.

Hoop took first-place honors in the varsity race. The sophomore outran two runners from Henry County to claim the victory.

Julie Spaulding captured fourth place. Amber Grover and Haley DeCandia ran to 11th and 12th place finishes while Morgan Walker finished in 14th place. Megan Barnes and Kelsey Johnson rounded out the top 20.

Barnes took 19th place while Johnson claimed the 20th position.

Camilia Evans finished in 23rd place.

In his final race at Owen County High School, senior Josh Alford ran to a 20th-place finish in the boys’ race.

In the girls’ junior varsity race, Maggie Barnes ran to a fifth-place finish. Cody Downey placed ninth in the boys’ junior varsity race while James Thompson finished 13th.

Saturday at Williamstown High School, Hoop capped off her week by winning the NCKC meet.

Hoop defeated Madison Peace from Walton-Verona by 44 seconds to win the race.

Johnson finished in 26th place.
