Retired teachers staying busy

-A A +A

Earlier in June, members of the Owen Country chapter attended the quarterly Retired Teachers Association Fifth District meeting at Shelbyville.
OCRTA member Denise Perkins was presented a certificate by District President Debby Murrell for being named the District RTA Volunteer of the Year for 2012-2013.
Denise was one of 14 district winners from across Kentucky.
The fifth district is made up of Bullitt, Carroll, Franklin, Henry, Oldham, Owen, Shelby, Spencer, and Trimble counties.
Perkins volunteered many hours, especially in leadership for the Cloverbuds, served on several local, district, and state 4-H/ extension boards, and donated  time as she taught “ Recipe for Life” classes for fifth-grade students.
Also, at the fifth-district meeting, counties received monetary donations to take back to their local food bank programs.
At each of the quarterly meetings, members had donated money to be equally divided at the end of the 2012-2013 year.
On June 11, Owen County RTA members met for their local meeting. Committee reports were given, correspondence and acknowledgements were read, a review of the year was reported as OCRTA celebrated receiving several state-level awards.
Rob Stafford, superintendent of Owen County School District, was a guest at the  meeting and gave an informative talk about the local school system.
Officers for 2013-2014 were installed. Those who will be serving are Faye Shelton, president; Kae Crenshaw, president-elect; Elizabeth Prewitt, vice-president; Vonda Howard, secretary; Mike Ramsey, treasurer; and committee chairpersons – Phyllis Malcomb, benevolence; Susan Burress, health/insurance; Delbert Keith, legislative; Barbara Ramsey, membership; Betty Lusby and Verna Payne, program.
Members plan to gather on Sept, 10 at 5:30 P.M. at Fairway Golf Course/Clubhouse for the potluck dinner meeting.
