It is an annual occurrence for the Owen County softball team. It is a sign that spring and the upcoming season are near.

The Lady Rebels hosted the Owen County Alumni Game March 19 in Owenton. The 2009 team took on the alumni in a game that displays talent from both the present and the past.

The game was a family affair. Current Lady Rebel Jensen Wainscott played against her sister Tyne Wainscott and Kenzi Criswell played against her sister Katie Criswell Dunn.

Another family that was well represented was the Hamilton family.

Mindy Hamilton Hearne played on the alumni team with her sister Anna Hamilton Kemper. Mindy played against her daughter Kylee, a sixth-grader for the current Lady Rebels. Senior Sarah Bihl is a niece of both Mindy and Anna.

The current Lady Rebels will have bragging rights at family reunions this year as they got the best of the alumni team.

Katelyn Sutherland pitched well for the Lady Rebels while it was pointed out that the alumna who has been out of school the longest had the longest hit of the game for the alumni team. Mindy Hearne hit a long double in the second inning. According to her sister, Anna, Mindy graduated from Owen County “sometime” in the 1980s.

The Lady Rebels opened up the season Monday against Western Hills. They traveled to Gallatin County Tuesday and will remain on the road for a game with Carroll County Thursday. They will return home Friday night for a game with Paris. They will also host Henry County next Tuesday.
