Duke has the Cameron Crazies, Cleveland has the Dawg Pound and Kentucky has the Eruption Zone. Having a home field or home court advantage can be an important factor to a home team winning the game.
This season, the Owen County student body has done its part in aiding both the boys’ and the girls’ basketball teams. Each home game the students have come dressed up in different themes. The outfits have ranged from construction workers to fishermen.
Just this past week the students came to the gym dressed in togas and colorful suits. The togas were part of the “white out” against Gallatin County where fans were encouraged to wear white to the game. The outrageous suits were in honor of Owen County High School Basketball Homecoming.
At the Jan. 9 game, no one wanted to take full credit for the ideas.
“Different people have come up with each of the ideas,” student Dillon Mears said.
The outfits have brought excitement to the games. The students in the colorful costumes stand across from the Owen County bench and do their part along with the Rebels’ cheerleaders to get the other students and fans into the game.
What can we expect for the rest of the season? There are a couple of ideas on the table but the students at the game Friday were noncommittal. It seems we will all have to wait and find out together.
