For just about anyone who plays games, some losses are harder to take than others.

The Rebels’ loss in the opening round of the 31st District Tournament to Gallatin County May 18 would fall into the hard-to-take category.

Owen County took a 2-1 lead into the seventh inning and were one out away from a win and a trip to the 31st District Championship game.

With a runner at third and two strikes on the batter, the Wildcats took advantage of a wild pitch and scored to tie the game. The batter struck out on the next pitch to end the inning. The Rebels were not able to score in the bottom of the seventh, sending the game to extra innings.

In the top of the eighth, Gallatin County pushed three runs across to take a 5-2 lead. Owen County did not score in the bottom of the eighth, which brought their season to an end.

Collin Gamble had a hit and walked twice. He also scored both Rebel runs in the game. Brody Layton and Zach McDonald each had an RBI. Royce Neeley pitched well in 7 1/3 innings, giving up four runs, only two of which were earned. Jordan Cox pitched the remainder of the eighth inning, allowing an unearned run.

Royce Neeley and Collin Gamble were named to the All-Tournament Team.
