The regular season has come to a close for the Owen County baseball team.
The team played two road games last week.
The Rebels traveled to take on Frankfort where Owen County banged out 16 hits on their way to a 14-1 win. Matt Harris, Collin Gamble, Jordan Cox, Zach McDonald and Denny O’Toole combined for 11 hits and 13 runs batted in. Brody Layton pitched four scoreless innings to pick up the win.
Owen County got back on the bus the next night and headed for Western Hills where the Wolverines picked up win number 20 with an 11-1 victory over the Rebels.
The game was the final regular season game for six Owen County seniors. They include Cox, Gamble, Harris, McDonald, O’Toole and Royce Neeley.
The team finished the regular season with a 12-15 record. The win total is an improvement over last season’s when the Rebels won just nine games.
The team took its record into Monday night’s 31st District game with Gallatin County at Henry County.
The Rebels defeated the Wildcats earlier in the year 4-3 in Owenton.
This time, however, Gallatin County came out on top, 5-2.
The Owen County Rebels ended their 2009 season with a record of 12-16.
