The Owen County Parks and Recreation youth traveling football teams all qualified and participated in the NCKYFL Playoffs last week at Gallatin County. Two of the three teams will be playing for the Super Bowl Championship. The Mighty Pro and Power House teams both advanced to the Super Bowl with victories at Gallatin County. The following is an account of the playoff games:

Midget Division

Grant County Blue 20, Owen County 7. These teams were facing each other for the third time this season. The Braves had taken the previous two meetings. The Blue squad took a 20-0 lead into the fourth quarter. Codey Elliott scored on a 45-yard run and passed to Chase Stewart for the conversion for the Rebels’ scoring.

Mighty Pro Division

Owen County 32, Grant County Blue 6. This was the rubber game between these two teams. The Braves had beaten the Rebels the second game of the season, and the Rebels had returned the favor in a late-season meeting. The Rebels’ offense went right to work on their very first series. QB Logan Harrod hooked up with Blake Burke on a long pass for a first down. Runs by Burke, Chase Petroff, and Dalton Miley pushed the ball to the Braves’ 17-yard line. From there, Harrod pushed up the middle and then bounced outside on his way to a 17-yard TD run. Harrod connected with Burke in the end zone for the conversion and a 7-0 Rebels’ lead. As has been the case against this Braves team in the past, the celebration wAas short-lived when the Braves took the ensuing kickoff back for a touchdown to cut the Rebels’ advantage to 7-6. The Rebels’ offense went right back to work. Harrod hit Burke for a first down. Runs by Harrod, Petroff, and Burke pushed the ball to the Braves’ 25-yard line. From there, Harrod found Burke cutting across the middle and connected with him for a 25-yard touchdown strike. The kickoff team and the defense came up big on the next series. After a big kickoff by Harrod pinned the Braves inside their 5-yard line, Jason “Bubba” Gray smashed a Braves ball-carrier creating a fumble that was recovered by Robert Risch at the Braves’ 4-yard line. After a penalty against the Rebels moved the ball back to the 19-yard line, Harrod dropped back to pass then scrambled down the left sideline for a touchdown. Harrod added the conversion to push the Rebels’ advantage to 20-6. After the defense held, the Rebels’ offense went to work again. Harrod broke loose down the right sideline for 35 yards to the Braves’ 19. From there, the Rebels executed a beautiful double-reverse to Burke who rambled in from the 19-yard line for the TD and a 26-6 half-time Rebels lead. The teams battled evenly in the second half. The Rebels got their final score of the game when Harrod picked off a Braves pass and streaked down the right sideline en route to a 53-yard touchdown. The Rebels will play Walton for the Super Bowl Championship.

Power House Division

Owen County 19, Walton 14. This was the second meeting between these two teams this season. The Rebels defeated the Bearcats 19-0 in their earlier meeting. The Rebels jumped to an early lead behind a big run from Ty Smith. Smith broke free down the left sideline on a 39-yard jaunt to the Bearcats’ 3-yard line. From there, Damian Hopkins hit pay-dirt to give the Rebels a 6-0 first quarter lead.
