Rebels’ season ends in Henry

The Owen County High School baseball team was making its third straight appearance in the Eighth Region baseball tournament May 26 in Henry County.
The Rebels entered their contest with Simon Kenton hoping to advance to the semifinals for the first time since 2007.
The Pioneers were looking to advance for the second straight season by knocking out a 31st District opponent. They defeated Gallatin County in the quarterfinals last season.
The Pioneers would get quality pitching and timely hitting to defeat the Rebels 5-1 to end Owen County’s season.
It was the second time the Pioneers had defeated the Rebels in the tournament. The first time came in 2007 when Simon Kenton won 5-2 in the semifinals.
After defeating Owen County on May 26, Simon Kenton advanced to the championship game by knocking off Collins 5-3 in the semifinals. They captured the title and advance to the state tournament by beating Anderson County 3-1 in the championship game.
The Rebels finished the season with a record of 14-17.
