The beginning of August can mean only two things. School is about ready to begin and so are the fall sports at Owen County High School. Practice has been under way at the school for over two weeks as each team gets ready for the upcoming season. The football team will be under the direction of a new head coach, Adam Fowler. The Rebels and their new coach will be looking to improve on a 2007 campaign, which saw them win just one game. The team will kick off the season on Aug. 29 against Bishop Brossart in Alexandria. The boys and girls’ soccer teams will begin their season on Aug. 18. The girls will be taking part in the Capital City Classic at Franklin County while the boys will begin the year against Sayre. Amanda Borchers and the volleyball team will begin their second season together on Aug. 12 as the girls travel to Trimble County. The boys and girls’ golf teams will be hitting the links in August. Coach Kevin Webster will again be guiding the boys while the girls will be coached once again by David Wainscott. Jeff Sutton will be leading the boys and girls’ cross country teams again the fall. For a complete look at the upcoming seasons, including team pictures and previews, be sure to check out The News-Herald on Aug. 27 for the Fall Sports Preview.
