Residents of Perry Park may soon feel a little safer following the Owen County Fiscal Court’s approval of an emergency siren for the area.
Owen County Judge-executive Carolyn Keith said there are no underground shelters in the area and very few basements.
“The mobile home park in the back does not get cell coverage,” Keith said. “This will help to alert them as to what’s going on.”
Funding for the emergency siren will come from a regional 911 fund which includes Owen, Henry and Trimble counties.
During its July 9 meeting, the court also approved a resolution to use discretionary and flex funding for repayment of Buck’s Run Road, Cull Pepper Pike, Old Landing Road, Old Sparta Road, Kemper Lane and Cardinal Drive.
The remaining balance will be used toward paving Rockdale Road, Slippery Rock Road and Harris Ridge Road.
Keith said the work will amount to a total of approximately 17.7 miles.
A mutual-aid agreement between Frankfort Fire and EMS and the Owen County Life Squad was also approved.
According to the agreement, the requesting agency will provide advanced life support, the highest level of care both agencies are licensed to provide.
Neither agency will expend their last available unit to provide mutual aid, under the agreement.
