When looking at the results from the Owen County girls’ track team, one thing is apparent. Those girls can run and run fast.
The team took part in a pair of meets last week. One took place at Shelby County March 24 and the other at Western Hills Thursday. In both competitions, the girls performed well.
In the 100-meter dash, Melina Bress and Evyn White both finished in the top twice last week.
Bress ran to a second-place finish at Shelby County and a sixth-place finish at Western Hills. White finished seventh at Shelby County and at Western Hills.
In the 200-meter dash, Danielle Hoop proved that not only can she cover long distances in a short amount of time, but she is also good in short spurts. Hoop finished second in both meets last week.
White captured ninth place at Shelby County. Bress finished sixth at Western Hills with White right behind her in seventh.
Hoop also ran well in the 400-meter dash. She won the event at Shelby County while Camelia Evans finished 10th.
In the Western Hills 800-meter run, Hoop brought home first place.
The Lady Rebels are also strong in the hurdles and the relays.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Kelsey Johnson captured sixth place at both meets last week.
Rachel Dauwe finished eighth at Shelby County and ninth at Western Hills.
Haley DeCandia finished eighth at Western Hills.
Johnson finished fifth in the 300-meter hurdles at Shelby County while Dauwe finished seventh.
At Western Hills, DeCandia finished fifth and Dauwe came in sixth.
The 4x100-meter relay team won at Shelby County and finished second at Western Hills.
The 4x200-meter relay finished fourth at Shelby County and third at Western Hills.
In the field events, Shayla Lainhart finished 16th in the discus and 17th in the shot put at Shelby County.
At Western Hills she placed 18th in the discus and 14th in the shot put.
Camelia Evans jumped to an eighth-place finish in the long jump at Shelby County while Kelsey Johnson finished 13th. The two also jumped well at Western Hills as Evans finished 12th and Johnson finished 14th.
The team was in action Tuesday as they ran at Grant County. They will also take part in the Carroll County Invitational Friday.
