An Owen County mom used her car to block an Owen County school bus that was heading back to school after a field trip in Frankfort March 9. She demanded that her child get off the bus.
Owen County School Board Superintendent Mark Cleveland said seniors had gone to a movie and restaurant in Frankfort.
As they returned on U.S. Hwy. 127, the woman blocked the bus with her car.
Cleveland said if the parent had called ahead of time and requested to pick up the child at one of their destinations, it would have been allowed.
“The parent never got out of the vehicle,” Cleveland said. “The student did not want to get off the bus and even had she wanted to get off the bus, we could not have allowed it the way the parent was going about it.” Cleveland said he was proud of the teachers on board the bus and Owen County High School Principal Shannon Treece.
“Ms. Treece was really quick to get down there,” Cleveland said. “Everyone kept their wits and kept cool. I’m very proud of them.”
Cleveland said Owen County Sheriff Zemer Hammond escorted the bus back to school.
“I think that speaks volumes for our law enforcement,” Cleveland said.
No charges have been filed in connection with the incident.
