Owen track teams have final tune-ups

The Owen County track team will be heading to Lexington Saturday for the Regional Track Meet. The ultimate goal is to send as many athletes as possible to the Kentucky State Track Meet June 4 in Louisville.

The Rebels had a pair of meets last week to get ready.

The first came May 18 when the team headed to Carrollton for the Carroll County Tri-Meet.

For the girls, Christina Johnson finished fifth in the 100-meter dash with Kaylynn Workman sixth, Shelby Ogden seventh and Nicole Johnson eighth. Johnson finished third in the 200-meter dash while Workman finished fifth, Lizzy Anderson sixth and Ogden seventh. Haley Decandia and Michaela Gibson placed second and third in the 400-meter dash. Kelsey Johnson finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles while Decandia and Workman finished second and third in the 300-meter hurdles. The 800-meter sprint medley relay team placed fourth.

In the field events, Kelsey Johnson finished fourth in the discus while Megan O’Donnell placed sixth and Shayla Lainhart finished eighth. Decandia finished first in the high jump and Christina Johnson finished fourth in the long jump. O’Donnell won the shot put while Lainhart finished fifth.

For the boys, it was Cory Cannon who finished second in the 100-meter dash with Taz Adams fourth, Dylan Hearn fifth and Chris Smith ninth. Cannon also finished third in the 200-meter dash with Hearn coming in fourth, Tyler True seventh and Smith eighth. Bobby Mingie posted a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash with teammates Justin Davis sixth, Will Dempsey seventh and Smith 10th. Darian Polley captured the 110-meter hurdles with Mingie second, Adams third and Dakota Pence fourth. Polley and Pence finished fourth and seventh in the 300-meter hurdles. The 800-meter sprint medley relay team finished second.

In the field events it was Dillon Mears winning the discus while Daniel Cummins finished second and Daniel Powell eighth. Hearn finished second in the long jump. Dempsey placed seventh, Downey eighth, Polley ninth and Smith 11th. Downey placed fourth in the triple jump. Cummins finished third in the shot put while Cody Gray finished fourth, Adams fifth, Mears ninth, Powell 11th and True 12th.

Both the boys and the girls then headed to Campbell County Thursday for the North Central Kentucky Track Conference Meet.

Christina Johnson finished 10th in the 100-meter dash while Shelby Ogden placed 18th. Ogden then placed 10th in the 200-meter dash with Lizzy Anderson placing 17th. Michaela Gibson and Ashley True finished 13th and 14th in the 400-meter dash. Kelsey Johnson placed eighth in the 100-meter hurdles and Kaylynn Workman fifth in the 300-meter hurdles. The 4x100-meter relay team finished sixth, the 4x200-meter team fourth and the 4x400-meter team seventh. Ashley Tyler placed 12th in the 800-meter run.

In the field events, Megan O’Donnell finished 15th in the discus and Shayla Lainhart 16th. Decandia placed fifth in the high jump while Kelsey Johnson and Shayla Lainhart placed third and ninth in the javelin. Christina Johnson finished 14th in the long jump while O’Donnell and Lainhart finished 13th and 14th in the shot put.

On the boy’s side, Cory Cannon and Chris Smith placed 11th and 13th in the 100-meter dash. The pair then finished ninth and 16th in the 200-meter dash. Justin Davis and Tyler True came across the line in 11th and 13th place in the 400-meter dash. The 4x100-meter relay team and the 4x200-meter team both placed fifth. The 4x400-meter team placed seventh and the 4x800-meter team came in fifth. Cody Downey placed 16th in the 800-meter run.

In the field events, Daniel Cummins and Dillon Mears finished sixth and seventh in discus. Cummins and Smith finished fourth and 10th in the javelin while Dylan Hearn and Darian Polley placed 10th and 11th in the long jump. Taz Adams finished 15th in the shot put.
