Owen track team shows off skills in Walton

The Owen County track teams went north on I-71 Saturday to take part in the Walton-Verona Class “A” Meet. The Rebels were part of 17 teams that took part in the event.

The team had several top-10 finishes on the day.

On the girls’ side, Haley Decandia finished 10th in the 300-meter hurdles and seventh in the high jump.

Kristiana Johnson placed ninth in the long jump while the 4x100-meter relay team came across the line in 10th place.

For the boys, it was Dillon Mears who finished first in the discus while his teammate Daniel Cummins placed eighth.

Darian Polley placed ninth in the 110-meter hurdles and Bobby Mingie finished ninth in the 300-meter hurdles.

Polley would also place 10th in the long jump.

The Owen County relay teams also did well. The 4x100-meter team finished seventh, the 4x200-meter team came in at sixth place and the 4x800-meter team ran to a seventh-place finish.

Other finishers for the girls included Kristiana Johnson and Shelby Ogden placing 11th and 20th in the 100-meter dash.

Lizzy Anderson and Ogden finished 21st and 22nd in the 200-meter dash. Kaylynn Workman placed 14th in the 300-meter hurdles while Michaela Gibson finished 16th in the 400-meter dash.

The 4x200-meter relay team came across in 11th place. Shayla Lainhart placed 18th in the discus and 19th in the shot put.

The boys’ team saw Cory Cannon and Chris Smith finish 15th and 18th in the 100-meter dash. In the 200-meter dash it was Cannon placing 15th and Smith 20th.

Justin Davis and Tyler True ran to 20th and 24th place finishes in the 400-meter dash while Cody Downey finished 19th in the 800-meter run. Taz Adams placed 12th in the 110-meter hurdles and Darian Polley 13thin the 300-meter hurdles. Dylan Hearn finished 12th in the long jump and Taz Adams and Cody Gray finished 14th and 20th in the shot put. Cody Downey jumped to a 14th-place finish in the triple jump.
