Owen track team pays a visit to Carroll County

The Owen County track team spent May 7 in Carrollton at the Carroll County Invitational.

The boys had several good performances including a second- and third-place finish in the discus by Dillon Mears and Daniel Cummins. Cory Cannon placed sixth in the 200-meter dash and ninth in the 100-meter dash. Also in the 100-meter dash, Taz Adams ran to a 12th-place finish.

Justin Davis and Will Dempsey came across the line in eighth and 10th place in the 400-meter dash. Darian Polley finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with Taz Adams placing 12th. Bobby Mingie ran to a sixth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles while Polley finished 12th. Cody Downey placed ninth in the triple jump while Taz Adams jumped to a 10th-place finish in the high jump.

The relay teams ran well with the 4x200-meter team finishing third, the 4x800-meter team finished fifth and the 4x400-meter team sixth.

In other events, Cody Downey finished 14th in the 800-meter run and Cody Gray finished 13th in the 1600-meter run.

In the long jump, Dylan Hearn and Darian Polley finished 11th and 15th. Cody Gray and Taz Adams finished 16th and 17th in the shot put.

For the girls’ team, Haley Decandia jumped to a fourth-place finish in the high jump and Kelsey Johnson finished ninth in the 100-meter hurdles. 

Also in the 100 meter hurdles, Kristiana Johnson placed 12th while her teammate Shelby Ogden finished 21st. Ogden also finished 21st in the 200-meter dash while Lizzy Anderson placed 22nd. Michaela Gibson and Ashley Tyler placed 15th and 16th in the 400-meter dash.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Kaylynn Workman finished in 13th place. The 4x100-meter relay team finished eighth, the 4x200-meter team finished sixth and the 4x400-meter team came in eighth place.

In the field events, Megan O’Donnell finished 12th while teammate Kelsey Johnson finished 13th. Kristiana Johnson finished 11th in the long jump while O’Donnell and Shayla Lainhart finished 13th and 14th in the shot put.

The team will next be on the track Saturday when they take part in the Walton-Verona Class A Meet.
