Owen students need help to attend Washington D.C. event

The AP U.S. Government and politics class at Owen County High School is planning to participate in an educational program to Washington, D.C.
The class has been invited to represent the community and state in the 2013 We the People National Invitational on the campus of George Mason University. The event, sponsored by the non-profit Center for Civic Education, takes place over five days this coming May 3-7.
During the program, the students will:
• Participate in congressional hearings: The class will conduct simulated congressional hearings before distinguished judges ranging from constitutional scholars to state Supreme Court justices.
• Experience a college campus: Hearings are held on the campus of George Mason University, one of the premier universities in the Washington, D.C. area.
• Explore all that Washington, D.C. has to offer: Additionally, for several days the students have the opportunity to experience the sights, monuments, and museums of Washington, D.C., such as the White House; the Lincoln Memorial; the U.S. Capitol; the U.S. Supreme Court; the Washington Monument; the Smithsonian Museum; meet students from across the country.
In order to take part in this unique program, the students need to raise $1,200 per student.
