The cross country season has begun for the Owen County Lady Rebels.
The team has high expectations entering the season. Danielle Hoop is returning for her junior season. Julie Spaulding, a freshman, is returning for another year running for the varsity team.
The two have been working hard this summer to prepare for this season. Spaulding continues to learn from Hoop, who is coming off a second-place finish at last year’s state meet at the Kentucky Horse Park.
The team ran its first race of the season Sept. 8 at Henry County.
Spaulding finished seventh to pace the Lady Rebels. Stacey Creed finished 13th while Michelle Goderwis and Megan Barnes finished 16th and 17th.
The girls took part in the 36th Annual Grant County Invitational Saturday. Hoop ran to a ninth-place finish while Spaulding finished 34th out of 86 runners.
Owen County’s Amber Gover, Goderwis, Haley DeCandia and Creed also ran in the race.
