The 114th Kentucky Society Daughters of the American Revolution State Conference was held March 26-28 at the Hilton Downtown Lexington Hotel.

Peggy Trinkle, regent of the John Guill Chapter, attended the conference as a voting member and to assist in preparations for the conference.

On Saturday, the John Guill Chapter’s DAR Good Citizen, Derek Ellis, received KSDAR’s Fifth District DAR Good Citizen Award. DAR Good Citizens have demonstrated the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their communities.

A senior at Owen County High School, Ellis is an honor-roll student, a member of the National Honor Society, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Drama Club and high school football team.

In addition to school, Ellis takes an active part in his church and community.  Ellis’ essay on American heritage gives a fresh perspective from today’s youth on how all Americans need to appreciate our country, the freedoms and opportunities it offers, as well as the sacrifices of our military to preserve it.

Following high school graduation, Ellis will attend Western Kentucky University.

He is the son of Rob and Susan Ellis of Owenton.
