Another beautiful weekend in Owen County brought forth yet one more thing for which to be thankful. The good deeds and services that were provided this past Saturday by the members of the Owen County Schools Service Club did not go unnoticed. As a high school teacher, I have a genuine interest in the lives of young people, as well as a desire to see them blossom and acquire success. I especially enjoyed seeing young adults displaying such compassion, ownership, and responsibility for their community.
I’m not so naive as to believe that there are no mischievous youngsters in Owen County, but I am observant enough to know that their numbers are few. I have seen the good in the kids of Owen County. I see it in their polite “thank you, ma’am,” their courteous “excuse me,” and their innocent smiles. Without fail, I saw their goodness once again, this time in the form of “Servolution ‘08.” Those students gave of their time, energy, and talents to better our community. They worked happily with smiles, purpose, and commitment.
So it is with a joyful heart that I say, “Thank you, members of Servolution ‘08. Thank you for bringing serving back.”
