Owen County citizens are invited to a Celebration of the 20/20 Vision Successes 7 p.m. Thursday at the extension office.

During this free event, Leadership Owen County Alumni will be showcasing the accomplishments of the past two years and invite citizens to be part of building the future of our county. Displays will show in detail projects that have been accomplished and many volunteers will be recognized for their part in helping to accomplish the Vision.

Albert Einstein said, “The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.” To that end, LOCA and many other volunteers have been working for the past two years to implement the new ideas our citizens proposed for revitalizing our county while maintaining our rural nature and agricultural heritage. These new ideas were submitted by citizens through the Owen 20/20 surveys and through community meetings conducted in 2007.

Recognizing that tobacco will not continue as in the past, requires that we think at a new level to create solutions for keeping what is important to us while creating new opportunities through tourism and other economic development, organizers said.

To those who think Owen County has nothing to offer in the way of tourism, the LOCA invites you to attend the celebration to see what is being done and what is planned. You will be surprised to learn there are countless tourism opportunities already available, especially involving agri-tourism and eco-tourism.

LOCA is proud to showcase the beauty and uniqueness of Owen County, and we invite you to come, be impressed and become involved.
