Owen County track teams continue strong season

Spring break ended Saturday for the Owen County track team. The boys and girls were back in action at the Walton-Verona Bearcat Open.

In the girls’ 100-meter dash, Melina Bress raced to a 10th-place finish while Evyn White finished 14th.

The same two ran well in the 200-meter dash with White finishing 11th and Bress 15th.

In the 400-meter dash it was Danielle Hoop who finished fifth. Rachel Dauwe placed 23rd.

Hoop also ran well in the 800-meter run as she finished fifth and then placed second in the 1600-meter run.

Amber Grove ran in the 3200-meter run and finished 16th.

Dauwe ran in the both the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles. She finished 18th in the 100-meter and 16th in the 300 meter. The girls 4x400-meter team ran well as they placed eighth.

In the field events, Evyn White jumped to a fourth-place finish in the long jump while her teammate Camelia Evans finished 18th.

White placed 12th in the shot put while Autumn Gover finished 22nd. Melina Bress placed 17th in the discus.

Among the boys, Owen County had some strong performances once again in the field events.

It was Josh Alford who finished fourth and Keith Arutoff sixth in the shot put.

Arutoff placed second in the discus just ahead of Alford who finished third.

In the high jump it was July Taylor finishing fourth. In the long jump Ryan Marston finished 21st and Jared Fitzgerald placed 23rd.

On the track, the boys saw Tyler Williams and Cory Cannon place 13th and 15th in the 100-meter dash.

Cannon finished 19th in the 200-meter dash with Williams right behind him in 20th.

In the 400-meter dash, Eric Bauer finished 16th and Corey Cobb finished 17th.

In the 800-meter dash, Clayton Cook ran to an 11th-place finish while Cody Downey finished 19th. Cook also had a good showing in the 110-meter hurdles with a 12th place finish while Dylan Hearn came in 13th.

It was Cook again running well in the 300-meter hurdles with a ninth-place finish. Avery Gover finished 15th in the same event.

Both the 4x100 and 4x200-meter relay teams finished seventh. The 4x400-meter relay team finished ninth while the 4x800-meter relay team ran to a 10-place finish.
