Owen County track team runs in All “A” Classic meet

 The Owen County track teams took part in a pair of meets last week.

The first was at Walton before heading to Danville Friday for the All “A” Classic.

At the Walton-Verona Tri Meet, the Rebels competed against both Grant County and Walton.

On the track, the girls again performed well with Melina Bress winning the 100-meter dash and Danielle Ransdell finishing fourth. Evyn White finished second in the 200-meter dash. Danielle Hoop finished second in the 400-meter dash with Rachel Dauwe finishing seventh. Sophomore Kelsey Johnson finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with freshman Dauwe coming in fifth. Johnson then finished fifth with Dauwe finishing sixth in the 300-meter hurdles. Both the 4x100 and 4x200-meter relay teams won their races.

White finished second in the long jump while teammate Johnson finished sixth. Miranda Goodnew placed fifth in the shot put. Maggie Barnes finished 10th. Goodnew then finished sixth in the discus with Bress finishing seventh.

In the boy’s meet, Tyler Pruitt finished second in the 100-meter dash with Daniel Dauwe finishing fourth. Tyler Williams finished sixth and Cory Cannon finished right behind him at seventh. In the 200-meter dash, Williams finished fourth and Cannon placed fifth. Justin Davis finished 10th. Corey Cobb and Erik Bauer finished second and third in the 400-meter dash. Avery Gover finished fifth in the 800-meter dash. In the 110-meter hurdles, Dylan Hearn placed third with Ryan Marston finishing fifth. Gover finished fifth in the 300-meter hurdles. The boy’s 4x100-meter relay team won the event.

In the high jump, Rachel Dauwe finished fifth and Pruitt finished sixth. Hearn placed ninth. Pruitt finished fourth in the triple jump.

Owen County dominated the shot put. Josh Alford won with Keith Arutoff taking second place. Daniel Cummins finished fourth. Daniel Powell and Dalton Mears finished seventh and eighth. Arutoff, Dillon Mears and Billy Payton went one, two and three in the discus throw.

Thirteen schools then took part in the All “A” Classic Friday in Danville.

Heading into the meet, Owen County Track and Field Coach Jerry Doolin was pleased with his team’s performance so far this season.

Doolin said several team members have already set personal bests while others are performing better at this point in the year than they did all of last year.

For the girls, Bress brought home third place in the 100-meter dash while Ransdell finished 12th. White placed seventh in the 200-meter dash with her teammate Bress finishing 10th. Hoop finished first in the 400-meter dash and Rachel Dauwe placed 10th. Hoop then ran to a second-place finish in the 800-meter run. Rachel Dauwe finished sixth in the 100-meter hurdles and Haley DeCandia and Rachel Dauwe finished eighth and ninth in the 300-meter hurdles. The girls’ relay teams ran well. The 4x100-meter team placed second before the 4x200-meter team won. The 4x400-meter relay team placed seventh with the 4x800-meter team racing to fourth.

In the field events, Ransdell placed fourth in the high jump. Autumn Gover placed fourth in the javelin with Goodnew finishing sixth. White finished eighth in the long jump with Camelia Evans finishing 11th. Goodnew and Shayla Lainhart finished 12th and 13th in the shot put. Evans jumped to an eighth-place finish in the triple jump.

On the boys’ side, Williams finished 11th in the 100-meter dash with Cannon finishing 14th. Cannon and Williams then finished 10th and 11th in the 200-meter dash. Clayton Cook finished ninth in the 800-meter run and Cody Downey finished 12th in the 1600-meter run. Cook finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles while Marston finished eighth. Cook then finished sixth in the 300-meter hurdles with Avery Gover finishing 12th. The 4x100-meter relay team finished third with the 4x200-meter team racing to a fifth-place finish. The 4x400-meter team and 4x800-meter team finished seventh and ninth.

In the discus throw, Arutoff finished second. July Taylor finished fifth in the high jump with Lewis Sanchez placing ninth. Daniel Dauwe won the javelin throw with Powell finishing eighth.

In the long jump, Pruitt finished seventh and Jared Fitzgerald finished 17th. Alford finished second in the shot put with Arutoff finishing eighth. Pruitt jumped to a seventh place finish in the triple jump.
