Owen County suffers pair of early defeats

Despite losses, coach remains optimistic

Going into their March 23 home opener against Harrison County, the Owen County Rebels knew it was not going to be easy.

The Thorobreds came to Owenton ranked eighth in the state.

The Rebels soon found out why. Harrison County defeated Owen County 18-0 in five innings.

Owen County High School Baseball Coach Kevin Webster summed up the game, “Harrison County is just one darn good team.”

The Rebels returned to action March 24 as they welcomed Western Hills to Dunavent Field.

The Rebels played better against the Wolverines but the visitors still managed to come away with a 7-3 victory.

Royce Neeley took the loss despite throwing five strong innings and battling out of some jams.

Corey Towles hit his first home run of the season in the loss.

In spite of the defeats, Webster said he and the rest of the coaching staff remain confident the team will improve its record.

 “We will be a good team at some point this season,” Webster said.

Owen County returned to action Tuesday as they hosted Williamstown.They will be at home tonight against Switzerland County and Thursday night against Fairdale.
