Owen County High School track stars honored at annual banquet

The 2009 Owen County High School track team banquet was held June 19. The following awards were given:

• Girls most  points and academic award - Danielle Hoop

• Boys most points and most improved award – Keith Arutoff

• Tied for most points – Josh Alford.

• Academic and rookie of the year award for his events  – Clayton Cook

• Academic award – Jared Fitzgerald

• Coaches award and 110 percent award – Tyler Williams

• Girls 110 percent award – Melina Bress

• Girls academic award and rookie of the year for her events – Danielle Ransdell

• Rookie of the year for his event – Tyler Pruitt

• Rookie of the year for his event  – July Taylor

• Girls coaches’ award - Evyn White

• All academic first team: Danielle Hoop, Danielle Ransdell, Evyn White

• Academic awards (G.P.A. 4.00-3.75) – Dillion Mears and Daniel Dauwe

• Academic awards honorable mention (G.P.A. 3.74-3.25) were awarded to the following:

Keith Arutoff, Melina Bress, Justin Davis, Camelia Evans, Daniel Cummins, Rachel Dauwe Tyler Pruitt, July Taylor and Avery Gover.

These athletes went to the state track meet in their event:

• Keith Arutoff – Discus, third place in state competition

• Josh Alford – shot put and discus

• Hayley DeCandia - high jump

• Danielle Hoop – 400,800, 4x100 and  4x200

• EvynWhite – 200,  4x100 and 4x200

• Melina Bress – 4x100 and 4x200

• Danielle Ransdell – 4x100 and 4x200

School records were broken in the following events:

• Discus – Keith Arutoff;

• High jump – Haley DeCandia;

• 400 – Danielle Hoop;

• 4x100 and 4x200 – Danielle Hoop, Danielle Ransdell, Evyn White and Melina Bress; 

• Javelin  – Billy Payton
