After starting the week with a pair of losses, the Owen County High School Lady Rebels finished on a positive note.
The team played Carroll County High School in the championship game of the Eighth Region All ‘A’ Classic in Owenton Saturday morning. It was the first meeting of the season between the two schools which are in the same district this season.
The Lady Rebels jumped on top in the first half when Morgan Walker scored from close range to give the Lady Rebels a 1-0 lead.
Walker would get another chance late in the half when the Panthers were called for a handball in the box to give the Lady Rebels a penalty kick. Walker converted giving Owen County a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Autumn Gover played well in goal and Walker and Ashley Byers added second half goals to propel the Lady Rebels to the 4-0 win.
The three goals by Walker marked her second hat trick of the season. She also scored three goals in a 5-0 win over Henry County earlier this season. It was also Gover’s second shutout of the year. She was in goal for the 5-0 win over the Wildcats.
Owen County advanced to play Louisville Collegiate on Monday afternoon in Louisville in the All ‘A’ sub-sectional.
Earlier in the week the team had dropped decisions to Collins and Lincoln County.
The Lady Rebels will be back in action Wedensday at home against Carroll County in a 31st District contest. A win would go a long way toward getting the No. 1 seed in the 31st District Tournament at the end of the year.
Owen County will then host Anderson County on Saturday before traveling to Walton-Verona on Monday night.
