If this season for the Owen County High School Lady Rebels will be a learning process then their first lesson was a tough one.
The team began the season Dec. 3 as they hosted Shelby County High School.
The Lady Rockets got off to a quick start and never looked back as they defeated the Lady Rebels 58-30.
Owen County trailed 25-15 at halftime and was able to trim the deficit to 7 points in the third quarter but would not be able to get any closer.
Freshman Alex Clifton led Owen County with 9 points. Another freshman, Morgan Ellis added 8 points.
The lone OCHS senior - A.J. Gravely - finished with 6 points for the Lady Rebels. Eighth-grader Debbie Farrar finished with 4 points while freshman. Destiny Young had 2 points and freshman Molly Gamble had 1 point.
It was the first time since 2008 the team has lost its opening game of the season. That season, Owen County lost to Grant County High School 46-45 in Owenton.
On Thursday night, the team hit the road for the first time as they went to Williamstown.
The game was tight throughout with the Lady Rebels holding on to a 21-18 lead. The game would be decided in the final minute, however with the Lady Demons coming away with the 47-43 victory.
Gravely finished with 21 points to lead the way for Owen County. Clifton finished with 8 points and nine rebounds while Ellis added 6 points. Gamble pitched in with 5  points and 12 rebounds and Farrar tacked on 3 points.
Owen County will next be in action Friday night in Carrollton against the Lady Panthers. The game will be part of a doubleheader with the boys and will get underway at 6 p.m.
They will be back home to host Gallatin County Monday night.
