Parents often ask what young children need to know before they start kindergarten. Put simply, they need time and space to play. Did you know that a United Nations high commission has even noted the right to play as one of the Universal Rights of the Child? Play is how children learn. The activity does not matter. It can be building with blocks or cuddling a teddy bear. It can be putting together a puzzle or jumping in puddles in the rain. It can even be washing dishes and reading a book. If a child is having fun, creating and discovering new things, this is play.
