Despite the threat of rain Friday and Saturday, the second annual 227 Yard Sale rolled on.
KY 227 resident and Owen County Magistrate Teresa Davis, who started the Kentucky Derby themed event in 2012, said there were approximately 14 yard sales along the stretch of highway.
“The number of yard sales was down some, everybody was afraid it was going to rain,” Davis said. “But it was still a good event.”
Prizes were given out to those who had the best Derby hat and Davis said Teresa Green was the overall sales winner.
The total amount of sales for this year’s event was $5,000.
“Everybody had a good time,” Davis said. “We’re looking forward to next year’s Derby weekend.”
The winner of the best decorated Derby hat was Tori House. Davis said Haley Johnson received honorable mention.
Davis won best decorated house but gave the prize money to the other best hat finalists.
