Owen County boys win Eighth Region All ‘A’ Classic

The Owen County High School boys soccer team claimed a championship on Saturday.
The Rebels won the Eighth Region All ‘A’ Classic in Owenton by defeating Carroll County 3-1.
Owen County played Monday against Louisville Collegiate in Louisville in the All ‘A’ sub-sectional.
The Rebels got a first half goal from Austin Collins to lead 1-0 at the half.
The Panthers tied things up early in the second half before James Marston scored midway through the second half to give the Owen County a 2-1 advantage. The Rebels would seal the win on a brilliant header by Carlos Perez off the assist from Marston.
The Rebels played well defensively and got solid goalkeeping from Ben Allen to secure the championship. It was the second time this season Owen County has defeated the Panthers to win a championship. The first came on Aug. 18 when the Rebels won the Owen County Invitational by beating Carroll County also by the score of 3-1.
Owen County reached the championship game by defeating Gallatin County  2-0 on Aug. 29 in Owenton.
Collins and Victory Perez each had goals for Owen County while Will Dempsey and Marston each had assists. Ben Allen went the distance in goal to record the shutout.
For Allen and his teammates, it was the second-straight shutout win over the Wildcats last week.
On Aug. 27, Owen County traveled to Warsaw and dominated Gallatin County in a 7-0 win. Collins and Devin Ricketts had a pair of goals to lead the way. Ricketts also had an assist. Marston had a goal and three assists while Nathan Rivera also added a goal. Victor Perez had an assist in the win.
Saturday’s win improved the Rebels to 6-5 on the season.
The Rebels will host Dixie Heights Thursday before traveling to play at Carroll County on Tuesday.
