Licensed drivers in Owen County showed their support of organ donation by donating an extra dollar and placing their name on the Kentucky Organ Donor Registry when renewing their drivers licenses in 2009.

According to the Kentucky Circuit Court Clerks’ Trust For Life, Owen County Circuit Court Clerk, Leigh New’s office collected the donated $1 from 61 percent of those obtaining their drivers license last year; and 28.6 percent of drivers also placed their name on the Kentucky Organ Donor Registry.

Owen County should be proud and pleased with their participation in this very important effort and should be congratulated on their support.

“We don’t necessarily want people to wait up to four years when they renew their licenses to place their names on the registry,” said New. They can register by going online to www.DonateLifeKY.org. But, many people are unable to go online so we want to make it easy for them when they do renew their licenses.”

Kentucky’s Circuit Court Clerks have been very active in promoting organ donation since 1992 when they created the Kentucky Circuit Court Clerks’ Trust For Life. The Trust is supported by the $1 donation many Kentucky motorists make when they renew their licenses.
