OCHS girls track team finishes sixth at region

The Owen County High School girls track team headed to Danville Saturday for the Class A Region 5 Meet at Admiral Stadium. Thanks to some solid performances, the team was able to finish in a tie for sixth place. The team placed eighth last year.
Some of the top individual performances included Haley DeCandia, who finished second in the high jump for the second year in a row.
Paula Rivera placed second in the discus.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Andi Burford, DeCandia, Amber Gover and Rivera finished third. The same four also placed fourth in the 4x200-meter relay.
Other results included Burford 10th in the 100-meter dash.
DeCandia was seventh in the 200-meter dash with Burford, 10th.
Gover was seventh and Ashley Tyler 11th in the 400-meter dash.
Nicole Jacobs and Hager finished sixth and seventh in the 100-meter hurdles.
In the 300-meter hurdles, it was Jacobs ninth and Hager 10th.
Samantha Tamplin was eighth and Emily Bibb eleventh in the 800-meter run.
In the 1600 meter, it was Tamplin seventh and Bibb eighth.
Bibb placed sixth and Tamplin seventh in the 3200-meter run.
In the field events, it was Rivera ninth and Sarah Willhoite 11th in the shot put.
Tyler was 10th in the discus.
In the long jump, it was Gover 10th and Bibb 11th.
Rivera and DeCandia both qualified for the KHSAA Class A State Track Meet at the University of Louisville.
Rivera will be competing in the discus and DeCandia in the high jump.
