Kentucky State Police officials said no charges are expected in connection with the crash that injured two people including Owen County Emergency Management Director Rick Morgan.
According to the Kentucky State Police, Kyle Newsome, 19, of Owenton, was driving southbound on Hwy. 127 S. on July 10 when she apparently fell asleep. Her vehicle drifted into the northbound lane, police said.
Morgan, who was driving in the northbound lane, spotted the vehicle coming toward him and shifted into the other lane, police said.
Newsome woke up suddenly, KSP said, and tried to return to the southbound lane and the two vehicles hit head-on.
Newsome was transported to New Horizons via Owen County Life Squad.
Morgan was extracted from the vehicle he was operating and airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
Owenton, Owen County, New Liberty and Jonesville volunteer fire departments, along with Owen County Rescue responded to the scene. The Monterey Volunteer Fire Department was on standby at the Owenton/Owen County Volunteer Fire Station.
No charges have been filed in connection with the wreck.
