Monterey Matters: Organizers, sponsors deserve special thanks

-A A +A
By Dana Burke

What a wonderful day it turned out to be for the Monterey Homecoming Fair 2012.
We could not have asked for better weather especially for October. I have heard several people say (and I have to agree) that this was the best fair in a very long time as far as the weather and the attendance. It seemed there were a lot more booths this year despite the fact that several food vendors didn’t show up. This left the ones that were there running out of food sooner than they had planned. I believe they even ran out of burgoo too.
All in all though I believe everyone got enough to eat and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.
The street dance turned out pretty good too I believe. We stayed for a while but didn’t last for the entire show. The band Crooked Creek was doing an awesome job. In fact, all the music for the day was great. There were lots of talented people who showed up to perform for us this year. We wish to thank all of you for coming out in helping to make this the best fair ever.
Robin said a lot of money was raised from the silent auctions and wishes to thank everyone once more for their contributions.
I’d also like to thank all the wonderful ladies in our community for your contributions with the wonderful cookies, brownies, cakes and pies that you all worked hard on preparing for us.
We also did pretty well on the cake walks as well.
Big thanks to Jim Bush for coming out and helping out with the cake auction too. I would also like to give a big thanks to all who were involved in coming down prior to the fair and taking part in the clean up. Our little town looked awesome come Saturday morning. Thanks again guys and I hope you all know how much you mean to us for helping out in this. Several people are already talking about the next one.
This was Dani’s (my granddaughter) first Monterey Fair. She seemed to be having an awesome time. She lasted the entire day. I ended up taking her on home with me around 9:30 p.m. and let mom and dad have some alone time to enjoy the street dance.
We would also like to thank the other contributors to the Monterey Fair Silent Auction:
Carrollton KFC - Larry Mason of Carrollton;  O’Charley’s of Frankfort - Ruth Montgomery; The Country Corner at North Park - Mary Juett; Sweet Owen County Store; Movie Tavern- Dallas, Texas; Chakeres Theaters Inc. of Springfield, Ohio; Sisterly Touch Catering - Ruby Stewart; Bluegrass Hospitality Group of Lexington; and New Artifacts – John Qubeck.
Until we meet again, God bless, be safe and please continue to keep all our sick in your thoughts and prayers.
